6 years in SF today. Longer than I’ve lived continuously anywhere in my adult life. I’ve really found myself as an adult here, and am grateful for the communities I’m blessed to be a part of. Practicing gratitude is the one way I know how not to fear change, lament the past, anticipate the future - to simply see what is in each moment as it is. I don’t know what tomorrow or next year brings or even where I’ll be, but today I’m just thankful for all the abundance being in San Francisco has brought into my life. 🌁 🌁 🌁 #gratitude #sfinsta #sanfrancisco #california
NEW CLASS: This life is full of new beginnings and endings. I’m excited to share a new beginning - now teaching SUNDAY afternoons in SF at @yogatreesf Hayes Valley 4:45-6p. • • • Yoga class has been led during this time for years by a few of my favorite teachers and friends, and I’m grateful to pick up the mantle and carry it on for awhile. • • • This is not MY class and you are not MY students. It’s an honor for me to teach and share some of the wisdom I’ve learned over time, and to witness the transformations, the deepening, brightening and softening, of so many. To witness, to be taught yoga again and again, through each ending and through each beginning, and again and again. • • • This practice teaches us about being in the moment, not fearing an end and not grasping for the new beginning, they inevitably come, but how do YOU show up through them all? • • • WANNA COME PRACTICE? It’s fun I promise and the music is really good :)
All that we seek, all the ways we seek to be better, already exists - wholly and completely within you. Deep within, that place of unfiltered light, is your true self - whole and enough. • • • When the insecurities and the anxieties and the aversions and the rejections seem to take outsize importance in life - and lets be honest how often they do for so many of us - I try to instead remember they are temporary and that within me is the power, the wisdom and the answer that tells me how to take a next step. • • • It is the place that wills us to be our best each day, to forgive ourselves and those around us, to begin again and at the end of the day simply to be and be the best we can be - and know that that’s enough. • • • #light #love #joy #truth #sun #yogaoutside #yogaeverywhere #bebest #gayyoga #gayfit #instagay #instafit #oceanbeach #indiansummer #om
On the edge of the earth, where the earth emerges from the depths of the ocean only to return back again someday, seems a good spot to remember how small we are, how our momentary dramas and fears and negative thoughts may not be as significant as we often think in the moment. I broaden the way I look at the world and my own experience in it, I see that really water reminds me that really what I see of the world is my own reflection and interpretation of it. I find some relief in the surrender to my own power and place in the world as small as it is, and with the knowledge that before long too, like the earth itself, I will return back into the earth and the ocean. And what a relief that is. To just be able to see and be and love and know that little else matters beyond that. No career, no status, no bank account balance, no relationship. Just how I show up moment by moment fully being.

So much of the practice of yoga is about digesting - digesting what we put into our bodies, food as much as experiences - processing and keeping nutrients and eliminating the waste that doesn’t serve. Vegan eating is one way you can consider your approach to digesting and nutrients - what’s good and easy for your body to digest, what’s nutrients that feeds it, and what’s good for the planet and those we share it with. Lots of good recipes and options are vegan - like this blueberry cornmeal crisp - and they don’t have to taste like cardboard or be loaded up with sugar or salt. Give it a try. Even for a little bit. I’m not fully vegan myself but I like to experiment and have noticed how a plant-based diet makes me feel a lot better in so many ways - especially if you then get to share what you make with others. What are your favorite things to eat in the summer?
Habits and habituated ways of thinking. We all have them. They root into our minds and ways of acting when even we aren’t aware of them. These patterns and experiences that start to define us - samskaras - often lead us to think “I cant” “I won’t” “I don’t like.” The yoga practice - the physical shapes, the breathing, the philosophy, all of it... helps us step back a step or two to see and witness and observe ourselves in a greater context, to be able to see these patterns and habits and then, maybe, be in a place of choice. To maybe feel and think “I can” “I will” “I like” or even just to more fully, accurately perceive and be without ascribing an action or a label, unclouded by our own limiting patterns.
